The Round of 16 in the David Thompson Memorial Constituency Councils Football Classic kicked off at Silver Sands on Saturday night with two Christ Church teams crashing out.

Christ Church West Central and Christ Church East came out on the losing end in a double-header in which just one goal separated the teams in both contests.

St Thomas defeated Christ Church West Central 1-0 in the first encounter, while St Philip South prevailed 2-1 over hosts Christ Church East in the nightcap game.

A seventh-minute strike from Okeefe Yearwood proved to be enough to send St Thomas through to the quarter-finals.

There was more disappointment for the Christ Church fans in the second game.

Christ Church East went ahead in the 51st minute through Jamal Pinder, but Demar Linton equalised four minutes later.

With all to play for in the last 35 minutes, T’Shane Lorde netted in the 76th minute and St Philip South held on for the win.

The round will continue on Wednesday with a double-header at Passage Road. St Michael South will face St James South at 6 p.m. St Michael West will oppose St Lucy two hours later. (HG)
