The Citizens Action Partnership (CAP) is ready to tear the traditional two-party system to shreds and take over Barbados politically.
That was the promise from leader Wendell Callender at a recent meeting of his team and a small, but supportive, audience at Jacko’s Place, Government Hill, St Michael.
Noting that change has been a constant since the 1937 uprising, Callender said CAP has the talent to effect the changes members of the public have been asking for, and make that difference.
“People realise that this is a time for change and there will be change in Barbados!” he told the gathering.
“People understand that for too long we’ve been fooling around going from one side to the next, and they said they will have no more of that. And as we go around Barbados, this is what they’re saying, that they are looking for a group that will bring effective change to Barbados. A group that can tackle the problems and the challenges that we face in this country.”
Callender said he has always lived by dreams and has no fears; and as such, would not be daunted by those who wallow in the mire of negativity.
“A new paradigm is upon us and we should grab the opportunity to make a change, to free up the democratic process, so that talented people like those present here this evening can have a say in how this country is being run. This country needs to utilise talents from all spheres of life and be held accountable. No one party should be able to lay in wait in the knowledge that if it is not D then it has to be B. Sorry for them, there will be a C – Citizens Action Partnership,” Callender declared to loud applause.
The party leader said CAP has been “diligently” paying attention to the things of great concern to the people and its programmes, team and values reflect those needs.
CAP will not be running a full slate of 30 candidates in the upcoming general election, but Callender said they should be rolling out at least 20.
Partners Charleston Taylor, Grafton Cobham, Mark Adamson, Sandra Corbin, Wendell Callender, Kevon Jones, Victor Knight, Eric Marshall, Patsie Nurse, Reverend Richard Barrow and Peter Rock have signed a memorandum of understanding, with others still to do so. (YB)
