INDEPENDENCE BABIES: Girl first Independence baby

They are a special group – born on the same day that Barbados celebrates its nationhood. They are the Independence Babies and throughout November, the NATION will be taking a look back at Independence Babies through the years.

This story was originally published on December 1, 2005.

TWENTY-TWO YEAR-OLD Barby Trim delivered the first baby on Independence Day yesterday.

Trim, of Second Avenue, Buccaneer Terrace, Baywoods, St James, gave birth at 2:41 a.m. at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital to a daughter weighing seven pounds, 11 ounces.

“I am glad it’s a girl, I have two boys already,” an elated Trim told the DAILY NATION yesterday.

Debby-Ann Williams, 22, of Browne’s Gap, Jackson, St Michael, gave birth to the second baby for the day – her first.

Williams, who had chosen a name for a girl, delivered a boy at 4:04 a.m. “I wanted a girl; I had no names for a boy . . . but I am happy nevertheless,” she said. Williams’ baby weighed seven pounds, 11-and-a-half ounces.

Sherry-Ann Edwards was also another happy mother, giving birth to the third baby born – a six-pound, 14-ounce girl at 5:26 a.m. It was a first for the 17-year-old mother of Martin’s Bay, St John.

At Bayview Hospital, Jaden Archer was the first baby to be delivered to proud parents Kim and Rudy Archer, of Groves Cottage, St George. Weighing seven pounds, 13 ounces, he entered the world at 11:29 a.m. (NATION ARCHIVES)
