Unrealistic! That is how Minister of Education Ronald Jones has described the Barbados Labour Party’s (BLP) promise to restore free education across the board at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Cave Hill Campus if it forms the next government.
During the BLP’s 79th annual conference over the weekend, Opposition Leader Mia Mottley said this would be one of the first acts by a new minister of education.
But Jones, speaking to the DAILY NATION yesterday morning at his office following a press conference, said this was mere folly.
“Unless there is an explosion in the economy of Barbados in the next few months, then there is no way they can make it without cutting back on other areas of the economy. The economy will grow and continue to grow, but this can’t happen now, so to me it is a folly for making that kind of promise,” he said. (RA)
