Democratic Labour Party (DLP) member Verla De Peiza is calling on Attorney General Dale Marshall to “take his foot out of his mouth now and face the people, whom he has failed miserably” on the issue of gun violence.

In a statement issued on Sunday, De Peiza, an attorney and DLP spokesperson on Home Affairs and Office of the Attorney General, said she waited half-a-day for the Attorney General or the Commissioner of Police to weigh “in on the execution which took place at Kirtons gas station”, in reference to the fatal shooting of 46-year-old Mitchell Boyce at the St Philip location.

“Those of us who heard the barrage of gunfire in the video can only imagine the long-lasting fear of those innocent persons caught up in the melee, in particular the gas attendant who was at work and whose family is in disbelief,” she said, referring to a video circulating on social media.

De Peiza said the Attorney General was on record insisting that “these are targeted killings, and ordinary citizens have nothing to fear”.

“The Democratic Labour Party calls on this Government to lead, to speak up on the grave issue of gun violence in Barbados. And when he speaks, the Attorney General needs to confess that he has no policy directive to address our crime situation, and it is time for him to go,” she added. (AC/PR)
