The Barbados Water Authority (BWA) is warning people to desist from wading or swimming in water at any of its active worksites.
This follows a viral social media video showing a man lying in a large hole in the road which was filled with dirty water, seemingly enjoying himself while being handed a beer.
The area, surrounded with caution tape, was said to be an active worksite at Haggatt Hall, St Michael.
“Entering these areas can pose great danger to anyone venturing into them, especially when they are near electric poles or lines. This is a dangerous activity which can result in serious injury or death,” a BWA press release stated.
“By the same token, stepping
on any of the BWA’s infrastructure, repairs of which may be under way or may have already been completed, could damage the substructure and affect the completion time of the ongoing work.”
Giving an update on the status of the work in the video, the BWA said repairs to the site were completed and the area was soon to be reinstated. (MB/PR)
