Opposition Leader Ralph Thorne has labelled the current administration as “weak and toothless,” accusing it of being soft on crime.

In his response to the 2025 Financial Statement and Budgetary Proposals, Thorne said the recently introduced Bail Act offers no significant change, arguing that it does nothing the old legislation did not already provide.

He expressed concern that law-abiding citizens are losing the protection of the state, questioning the visibility and presence of law enforcement.

“We, the majority who are not involved in crime, seem to have lost the protection of the state,” Thorne said, asking pointedly, “Where are the police in this matter?”
