Don’t blame guns for violent crime; blame the aggressive behaviour of the people.
That’s the view of leading defence attorney Andrew Pilgrim QC.
He said in spite of the notable increase of gun- related crime that has challenged the security forces throughout this year, he does not believe that guns are the major problem the country now faces. Rather, the bigger threat is that of aggressive behaviour.
“Everyone is saying, ‘Where are all the guns coming from?’ But I got in my belief that if a man gine stop home and plan to kill you, he and several others, if he ain’t got a 45. and still got a collins you gine still get kill. So I believe we have a gun problem . . . but I believe we have a larger aggression problem.
“I believe that we are an aggressive people in this region – it ain’t just Bajans,” lamented Pilgrim, who delivered the Elsie Payne Memorial Lecture on Wednesday night. (SDB Media)
