Barbados now has a new 15 year old blended scotch whisky thanks to Dewar’s and local distributors Bryden Stokes limited.
This week industry stakeholders, clients and guests joined the Bacardi Spirits Portfolio Brand Manager Omar Beckles and Regional Brand Ambassador Collin Brown (below) for a tasting and masterclass on the new spirit.
The interactive sessions whet the palates of connoisseurs and those new to whiskies. As participants enjoyed a tasting journey, discussions surrounded the origins of Scotch whisky, the history of the brand, unique flavour profiles and factors which influence the taste and finish of Dewar’s white label, 12 year, 18 year and Signature. This set the stage for the reveal of the Dewar’s 15 Year Scotch.
Dewar’s Scotch 15 Year is an intermediate expression, expanding upon the 12 and 18 year olds in the line-up. Mixed by Master Blender Stephanie Macleod, this Scotch blend has up to 40 whiskies aged and married in ex-sherry and bourbon casks.
This product sits in a niche market as there aren’t many other blended scotch whiskies on the market with the same age statement.
Master blender Stephanie Mc Cloud, is the first blender outside of the Dewar’s family to blend a scotch under its label.
“What you will find is a marriage of unique flavours along with some traditional Dewar’s elements. It is a great representation of women in the liquor industry and in terms of flavour profiles, it cannot be matched,” Brown said.
Beckles, who is pleased to have the new liquor available in the local portfolio, shared that the Dewar’s brand has been showing double digit growth across the island and anticipates that this spirit will soon make its mark.
“It is different from the traditional taste profiles of the other Dewar’s blends, you will find it is bold and has a smokier finish when compared to the other taste profiles yet it has the signature Dewar’s silkiness. The scotch drinker and someone who enjoys dark spirits will enjoy this,” he said.
