Favourites Splash Titans will battle Rubis Diamonds while Belfield Blues A clash with RTEA the Academy when the semifinals of the 10th AS Auto Stop Village Camp road tennis tournament serves off today from
6 p.m. at the Deighton “Pa” Roach Tennis Facility in Bush Hall, St Michael.

With last year’s winners RTEA Elite shockingly tumbling out of the tournament at the hands of Rubis Diamonds at the quarterfinals stage, the RA Mapps Bar & Rotisserie Road Tennis Elite Academy will be pinning their hopes on The Academy to maintain their shot at a three-peat. On Thursday, Elite or more appropriately, veteran Antonio Yearwood threw away Elite’s chance to reach the semifinals.

In their quarterfinals, Elite drew first blood with Jacoby Ellis displaying tremendous talent and shots to take the Junior battle from Demitri Lewis 21-11. Diamonds then sent in Maudlyn Blunt who held off a spirited challenge from Cherene Ward 21-17.

With the rubber tied, Yearwood toyed around with veteran Marson Johnson, moving to match point 20-13 before serving away. Johnson grabbed the next two points moving to 15-20 and remarkably won all five of his serves to lock the scores at 20. Diamonds then reflected greater brilliance as Yearwood imploded and Johnson took the clash and the advantage 22-20. (KB)
