The Ministry of Transport and Works (MTW) is almost halfway through its $23 million Focused
Roads Programme.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister with responsibility for road works, Santia Bradshaw was speaking to the media on Tuesday night as work continued along Eagle Hall, St Michael. She said they had identified 60 roads to be repaired under the programme, with 25 completed, adding that the expectation was to complete them all in the “next few months”, weather permitting.

“So, back in February, we started a new programme for this financial year called the Focused Roads Programme. When we started the Mill and Pave Programme last year, we recognised that there were roads that were a little bit more complex than the Mill and Pave Programme [could handle]. So we categorised these programmes where we would now be able to work with the utility companies and the contractors to be able to do more rehabilitation of the roads.

“We’ve assessed about 60 roads as part of the programme through PESL, who is the [main] contractor engaged to do the overseeing of the works. We have about five [other] contractors that have now been working across the country, both in the rural as well as the urban corridor, to be able to bring some relief to various communities, the majority of them being residential roads. Of those 60 roads that have been assessed, about 25 have been completed to date . . . And the contractors will continue to work with us as they are tonight, working during the night, to ensure that we’re able to complete these 60 roads over the course of the next few months,” she said.
