Forget the weed. Legal farming can make big bucks too.
With hundreds of acres of unused agricultural land in Barbados now attracting the attention of marijuana growers, the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS) is searching for a way to get local farmers an opportunity to practise their craft instead of plantation land being worked by ganja growers.
For local farmers, any legal produce would do.
President of the BAS, James Paul, is hoping stakeholders in the sector can start dialogue with privileged plantation owners who continue to leave acres of land bare, even as Government is prepared to pay a hefty sum for every acre put back in cultivation. (BA)
