Flash Flood Watch in effect for Barbados

Share post:

The flash flood warning which was issued earlier Wednesday has been downgraded to a watch.

The Barbados Meteorological Services says moderate to heavy showers and periods of rain, may trigger some flash flooding overnight as a tropical wave continues to affect the island.

BMS radar indicates that parts of the island recorded between one and two inches of rainfall this afternoon, and a similar amount, is possible overnight. A reduction in shower activity is expected tomorrow.

However, model guidance is suggesting the high likelihood of wet conditions for the remainder of the week and into the weekend. As a result, watches or warnings may be issued at a moment’s notice in the coming days.

A flash flood watch is issued when heavy or excessive rainfall in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) could result in flash flooding within the watch area. It does not mean that flooding will occur.

This bulletin will be updated/terminated at 6 a.m. on Thursday, or sooner if conditions warrant. (PR/SAT)
