The Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) says it is working to clear a backlog of household waste that has accumulated across the island in recent days.

In a statement issued Thursday, the SSA acknowledged the mounting concern among residents and attributed the delays primarily to a recent 10-day work stoppage, which was extended to the two national holidays – Emancipation Day and Grand Kadooment Day.

“The SSA is aware that there is a backlog of household waste across the island”, public relations officer Carl Padmore stated. “We do apologise for this delay.”

According to him, collection teams were currently operating around the clock to address the issue.
