TECHNOLOGY PRACTITIONER Steven Williams has found some holes in the new policy to govern cellphone use in schools.
In a recently published “personal review” of the proposed rules, the former Barbados ICT Professionals’ Association president said the “acceptable use policy” was “based on students connecting to the ministry’s network for internet access”.
However, he pointed out that “it’s obvious that any policy violations will most likely happen because most people including children will have some type of data plan, rather than they using the Ministry [of Education’s] network inappropriately”.
He was also concerned that “one of the more challenging aspects of allowing personal mobile technology in schools will be the heightened interest in adult content by teenagers. (SC)
