A group of men, including two cricketers representing St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL),were attacked by a gunman outside of a popular establishment in Fontabelle, St Michael just after 3 a.m. yesterday.

Investigating police said the men were approached by an armed man around 3:14 a.m. and when
they tried to run away one of them fell. When that happened there was a scuffle with the armed man and in that struggle the victim’s chain was snatched from his neck.

A firearm was subsequently recovered at the scene and police investigations are continuing.

St Kitts and Nevis Patriots manager Dario Barthley informed the MIDWEEK NATION that everyone involved in the incident was “fine and no one was significantly hurt”.

“Obviously, now it’s a police matter and we are trying not to unnecessarily comment further as the investigation continues, but the police are involved, so I believe its only right to let them conduct their investigation before giving any further comment,” he said.

So far, the team is treating the robbery as an isolated incident and Barthley noted that he saw no security concerns for either the team or CPL officials at the moment.

A statement issued by the CPL noted that the incident is now “a police matter, and we will not comment
further while the investigation continues”.

“The focus for CPL going forward will be the well-being of those involved,” the statement concluded.
