NETBALLERS NO LONGER have to be concerned with not having access to an indoor facility and being unprepared for international tournaments overseas which are played under similar surfaces.

This assurance came from Minister of Sport Stephen Lashley while imploring the Barbados Netball Association (BNA) to utilise the new wooden floor at the recently reopened Garfield Sobers Gymnasium.

“I want to assure the president [Nisha Craigwell] when we spent $19 million towards the refurbishment of the Garfield Sobers Gymnasium we were listening all along to her cry for having an internationally graded floor which will allow for netballers in particular to be exposed to that level of facility, so that they can compete shoulder to shoulder with their colleagues internationally,” Lashley said.

He made the remarks during the opening ceremony of the Barbados Workers Union’s (BWU) 38th Annual Netball Tournament at the Netball Stadium on Sunday. (RG)
