CORRUPT SPORTS BETTING has reached Barbados.
The Barbados Volleyball Association (BVA) is so concerned that an international online betting company has been using its domestic matches for its gambling purposes, it has informed the Barbados Olympic Association which, in turn, has relayed its concern to the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
Acting president of the BVA, Kenmore Bynoe, told the MIDWEEK NATION that his organisation believed local individuals had been furnishing the company with information – voice, written and pictorial – of matches as well as the results of sets and matches.
“Some individuals, who are not bona fide media personnel, have been coming to volleyball matches and approaching the scorers’ desk and asking to take pictures at the conclusion of every set,” he said. That is one of the things that has aroused our suspicion. (MK)
