Top Barbadian athlete Akela Jones underwent knee surgery last Friday.

Jones, who was forced to miss the World Championships in London last month because of injury, made the revelation on her Facebook page yesterday.

Jones, who competed in the heptathlon at last year’s Olympics in Rio, described the operation as the first step towards the pursuit of a gold medal at the 2020 Games in Tokyo.

The Facebook posting also included a few pictures of Jones after the operation, including one with her sitting in a wheelchair with a heavily strapped left knee.

“Before you gasp and feel sorry for me, think of all the joyful moments we will have on my way to becoming the greatest jumper of all time,” Jones posted on the social network. (HG)
