MINISTER OF SPORT Stephen Lashley has pledged the continual support of the ministry and National Sports Council to Darian King’s tennis journey.

“Darian King’s performance brings a lot of pride and joy to Barbados. He will continue to get support from the National Sports Council. I want to warmly congratulate him and I know that he would do Barbados proud even further as he continues his career,” Lashley said.

His statement came on the heels of King’s exceptional performance in the first round of the US Open in the early hours of Tuesday morning at Flushing Meadows.

Though the 25-year-old King was not successful in advancing to the second round he was admired by many and seen as a player for the future as he matched strides for nearly three hours with fourth seed Alexander Zverev before losing 7-6 (9), 7-5, 6-4. (RG)
