SAVILLE ROW BESPOKE tailoring came to the Barbados fashion stage Tuesday night with a top drawer presentation by Trinidad-born Savile Row master tailor Andrew Ramroop at the CARIFESTA XIII Grand Market.
Ramroop was the first tailor of colour to own a shop on the famous street in Mayfair, Central London, acknowledged as the home of the best bespoke tailoring in the world. His success at dressing some of London’s well heeled has been acknowledged with the award of the OBE from Britain’s Queen Elizabeth.
Local models paraded 12 of Ramroop’s uniquely designed and made suits and a small sample of his one-of-a-kind silk shirts, while the master tailor himself engaged in a personal conversation with his eager Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre audience, explaining to them how he managed to build a successful brand and business.
Ramroop’s clothes bear the Maurice Sedwell label in acknowledgement of the famous Savile Row tailor who took a chance on him many years ago and whose shop the Trinidadian proudly calls his own today. (GC)
