BARBADOS’ GRAND SLAM dream has now become a major reality.

The King is in at long last.

Bajan ace Darian King saved his best comeback for the biggest moment in Barbadian tennis history, valiantly rallying from a set and a break down to book a historic spot in the main draw of the US Open against fourth seed Alexander Zverev.

Facing certain defeat while trailing 3-6, 3-4 in the final round of qualifying, King pulled off another of his trademark escapes for a momentous 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 victory over former world no. 44 Lukas Lacko at the temporary Louis Armstrong Stadium.

As a result, the resilient 25-year-old baseliner rewrote tennis’ history books by becoming the first player to represent Barbados at the main draw of a Grand Slam, and just the second Bajan to play at this level following Martin Blackman.
