DR FRANK MARSHALL served the Anglican congregation as dean of the Cathedral of St Michael and All Angels for ten years and as a member of the clergy for close to 50 years.
At Marshall’s funeral service yesterday, his successor Dean Jeffrey Gibson said of his mentor: “He was a consummate parish priest whose pastoral disposition commended him to many people. He gave himself wholeheartedly in many situations and through his priestly interventions he enabled many people to encounter God foremost in worship but also in their personal relations and also in their social engagements.”
Acting Governor General Sir Philip Greaves, retired Governor General Sir Elliott Belgrave and Lady Belgrave, Prime Minister Freundel Stuart, Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson, members of Cabinet, the Senate and the local Privy Council joined the hierarchy of the Anglican church and hosts of other clergy paying final respects to an Anglican stalwart whose scope of influence Gibson noted extended far beyond the church.
Gibson said Marshall had served many governmental agencies, civic bodies, non-governmental organisations and in this context reminded the congregation of his intervention during the early 1990s when there were challenges to the national economy that saw government and labour “at loggerheads”. (GC)
