The passage of Tropical Storm Harvey has caused power outages around the island with communities from Christ Church to St Lucy being affected.
Director of the Department of Emergency Management, Kerry Hinds reported this earlier this morning during the 2:00 am briefing from the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) at the Department of Emergency Management in Warrens.
Hinds reported that there are electricity outages in the “Oistins to airport corridor”, confirming reports received on air by NATION sister company Starcom Network that electricity was out in some large Christ Church communities, including Kingsland and Wotton.
She said electricity was also reported to have been out in the Fontabelle and New Orleans area of Bridgetown, Haggatt Hall St. Michael and in St. George communities including Woodland, Ellerton and Gall Hill.
In the north, power outages have been reported in the Bromefield and Maycocks areas.
Hinds reiterated the point made at the 11 pm briefing on Thursday night that all Category One shelters are open but said there were no reports of people coming to take shelter as yet.
The DEM head reminded the public to call the NEOC at 438-7575 with all information on the effects of the storm.
