Squeaky clean Foreday morning

AS DAWN BROKE and the last Barbados Light & Power Foreday Morning Jam band reached Spring Garden, it was time for the clean-up.

The Royal Barbados Police Force made an impressive sight following the last band, an imposing convoy made up of vehicles and dozens of officers, stamping their authority and control of the day’s festivities.

The police had brought new security measures into place such as a sterile zone from the Mencea Cox Roundabout to Fontabelle, where there were no vehicles or pedestrian congregating allowed and “certain security checks” made. This helped to allow the last band to reach the designated end point by the 6 a.m. cut off time.

But it was the Sanitation Service Authority (SSA) which had the responsibility to clean up the mess left by thousands of revellers. The SSA team, brightly clad in fluorescent vests, came along behind the officers, raking the refuse into heaps for other teams to come and gather it into bins. (CA)
