AAB: Early notice

LOOKS LIKE THAT request really did go in early after all.

The Athletics Association of Barbados (AAB) has said it applied for funding for the World Championships since January, contradictting the National Sports Council’s claims it couldn’t help finance the trip to London because of the late notice.

In a letter dated January 24 – a copy of which was obtained by the DAILY NATION – AAB treasurer Wendel Mason wrote NSC interim chief executive officer Jerry Blenman requesting funds totalling $315 350 “to participate in the 2017 regional and international competitions”.

The correspondence clearly detailed that $56 000 of the sum was for the World Championships’ budget, broken down into travel ($42 000), accommodation ($7 200), medical ($5 000) and miscellaneous ($2 400). (JM)
