This year’s Emancipation celebration began with a drum call, dance and fire breathing.
From around 8:15 a.m., the four groups converged at JTC Ramsay Circle, known as the Bussa Roundabout. From the West, by the Lloyd Erskine Sandiford Centre, the sounds of drums of a tuk band heralded the arrival one group comprising members of Cabinet and diplomats.
From the East, stilt walkers strode. From the north, skaters rolled up followed by a group led by Ambassador David Comissiong. From the South, coming over Hill, were the cheerleaders and music vehicle.
Also present were Spiritual Baptists, the Nyabinghi, the Barbados YouthAdvance Corps, bikers and more. The all-day event featured speeches, wreath laying, an award ceremony and a fashion show. (CA)
