WI miss out on series win

West Indies failed in their bid to secure a series win over Pakistan as the visitors roared back from defeat last week to easily win the second Test match by eight wickets, with a day to spare, yesterday.

The result on a wearing surface at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad meant Pakistan ended their eight-match losing streak away from home. It also meant West Indies missed out on the opportunity to record a series win over the Pakistanis since 2000.

The home comprehensively won the first match by 90 runs at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy last week and started this week as favourites. The defeat was even more harrowing as the Windies have now dropped to bottom of the ICC Men’s World Test Championship (WTC) table and also issued a chance to leapfrog Pakistan into sixth spot in the ICC Test rankings.

This match brought an end to the summer of international cricket in the region.
