Kevin Wickham, the stylish Barbados middle-order batsman, has received his maiden call-up to the West Indies Test team. NATIONNEWS can confirm through reliable sources that he will leave the island on Tuesday to join teammates for the upcoming series in Bangladesh. Before that they will assemble for a training camp in Chennai, India.
The 23 year old Wickham was the stand out batsman for Barbados Pride in the regional four day first class championship earlier this year where he made three centuries and scored 393 runs in four matches at an outstanding average of 78.60. His top score was 153 against Jamaica.
He has a so far made six hundreds in 25 first-class matches and has an average of over 40 runs per innings.
West Indies tour will run from October 22 to November 9 with the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka and the second at the Sylhet International Stadium. These matches form part of the International Cricket Council’s World Test Championship.
Several players for the camp left the region over the weekend and will start intense work at the Chennai Super Kings Academy facility under the guidance of batting coach Floyd Reifer.
Cricket West Indies is yet to announce this squad to the public. (PS)
