Justice Douglas Frederick was sworn in as Judge of the Gun Court today by President Jeffrey Bostic during a ceremony at State House.
Speaking after his appointment, Frederick said he was humbled by the confidence placed in him and looked forward to using new legislation and reforms to help deliver justice.
He said greater use of technology was needed to make the courts more efficient, while police and other agencies also needed to provide files more quickly.
“You cannot work without the files, and justice delayed can be justice denied,” he said.
Frederick said he would do his best to carry out his duties fairly, particularly in dealing with the proliferation of guns in Barbados.
“As you know from my previous work, I have always been fair. I have always listened to persons. I have always been polite but firm in my duties and that is what I will continue to do,” he said.
Frederick is a former attorney, having served as senior crown counsel and principal crown counsel in the office of the Attorney General. The alumnus of Garrison Secondary was appointed a magistrate in February 2006 and was acting chief magistrate prior to the appointment. (AM)
