The Barbados Labour Party is gearing up for its 87th Annual Conference, with a view to taking stock of its present and future.
At a media conference at the party’s headquarters on Roebuck Street, The City, conference chair Toni Moore said the event would take place from October 23 to 25 at St George Secondary School under the theme “Building Beyond the Victory”.
“It is not about the excitement or celebrating the victory of what happened at the polls eight months ago.
“It is about how are we going to deliver on what people expect from us? How are we going to deliver our services or do what we do in a way that people see and can feel in a tangible way that there is a difference and that they’re benefiting from it? How are we going to deliver better workplaces? How are we going to deliver better wages? How are we going to deliver better services, and how are we going to overall deliver a better future for our people? I think that is what the election was about — it wasn’t about electing a party to win, but electing a party to serve, to transform Barbados,” she said.
Chief executive officer Patricia Parris outlined the party’s new executive, which includes political leader Mia Amor Mottley, new chairman Kirk Humphrey, first vice-chairman Chad Blackman, second vice-chairman Kevon Henry, third vice-chairman Shanika Roberts-Odle, general secretary Senator Dr The Most Honourable Jerome Walcott, and treasurer Ian Gooding-Edghill.
The public is invited to hear Mottley speak on October 24 from 4:30 p.m. The three-day event will also include a cocktail reception, karaoke, a dominoes competition, a church service, a cooking competition and an awards ceremony. (CA)
