Actress Peta Alleyne has passed away.
Although she worked as a producer at the Caribbean Broadcasting Corporation for many years, she was better known as a member of the Laff It Off cast.
Alleyne played the character Willhemina Herassofat for 30 years. She was invited to Laff It Off in 1988 and remained until 2018, one of the more popular people to gather at the Nook and Cranny Bar.
She was one of the writers of the long-running show.
“When I went into Laff It Off I was 23. Therefore my world view was something completely different from how it is now. What I was passionate about then, I’m not passionate about now. I have matured; I have grown up with Laff It Off,” she said in an interview in 2018 when she decided to step away.
“I performed pregnant with Laff If Off. I have memories of being onstage and then giving the others the look which meant, I have to go throw up. They were good enough to improvise and people would not realise that it was not a part of the scene. I also grew as a writer and I always wanted to write. It went from me writing a bit to writing entire scenes.”
In 2025, Alleyne “came out of retirement” to write the adaptation of Dem Come A Calling by Movelle Jordan for a stage play. (SAT)
