Shane Deitz has quit the post of head coach of West Indies women’s team and Andre Coley has been named as the interim head coach for the upcoming series between West Indies women and Pakistan women in Dominica. The series will feature six matches – three One-Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals at Windsor Park from December 8 to 22.
Cricket West Indies (CWI) made the announcement this morning after the information of Australia Deitz’s departure and Coley’s return was leaked on social media and in various sections of the media. This is the second major departure from the women’s coaching staff after Damien Wright, another Australian, stepped down as bowling coach in July.
Deitz took up the role in late 2023. Under his leadership, West Indies Women reached the semi-finals of back-to-back ICC Women’s T20 World Cups. In 2024 they lost to winners New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium and earlier this year they lost to winners Australia at the Oval in England.
Coley, who took charge of the men’s Test team in 2023 and has worked across all levels of the game in the region and at international levels, will retain the existing support staff as preparations for Pakistan get underway, with former Test players Shane Dowrich and Ryan Austrian as assistant coaches.
