The Ministry of Transport and Works is moving to address some of the pedestrian problems on highway 2A at Westmoreland, St James.
Deputy Chief Technical Officer Phillip Tudor led a team of technocrats to get a first-hand view of the challenges pedestrians encounter crossing the highway intersection.
“We will take a look at the junction to see what they can do in the interim. We are looking at either for the long term, [traffic] lights or a roundabout . . .,” but in the short-term road markings to hopefully alleviate some of the problems at the junction,” Tudor said.
A number of road fatalities have been recorded at Westmoreland, the most recent being last Wednesday. Mary Downes, 61, died after a collision between two trucks caused one of them to veer to the side, fatally striking her. (LK)
