SOMEONE IS out there on Facebook pretending to be Prime Minister Freundel Stuart.
That person is using the Prime Minister’s moniker and image to try to bilk unsuspecting net users of their money. They are also texting people and soliciting money using a fake United Nations grant.
And while local police have not yet had any reports, the Prime Minister’s Office has moved swiftly to head off any more acts of fraud.
An advertisement in yesterday’s Saturday Sun informed the public that “there have been several attempts recently to send fraudulent messages, engage persons via Facebook Messenger in conversation online, or even solicit money with false promises relating to a fictitious United Nations Grant by an individual or individuals purporting to be the Rt Hon. Freundel Stuart”.
In addition, the ad said a cellphone was being used to send messages purporting to come from the Prime Minister.
It warned people to not only report such actions to local police but to report the page to Facebook as well.
It further advised members of the public that should they want to contact the Prime Minister, they should call or write to him at his office at Government Headquarters.
When contacted yesterday police public relations officer, Inspector Roland Cobbler, said members of the Fraud Squad had not yet received any reports. (HLE)
