ORLANDO HUSBANDS has set a target of two years to become the English-speaking Caribbean’s first chess grandmaster.
The 19-year-old took a significant step towards the achievement by winning the gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Under-20 Championships two weeks ago.
In the process, he became the fourth Barbadian to be elevated to the title of international master while securing one grandmaster norm.
He requires a further two norms to attain the grandmaster title and he will also need to move his current rating of 2300 to 2500.
