Unlicensed food vendors a concern

Barbadians must check for the proper health licences in food establishments.

Former chief environmental officer Tyrone Applewhaite said unlicensed food and drinks vendors were a major public health concern.

“There are a lot of people popping up selling drinks and food without a Ministry of Health licence, which can be a food poisoning risk,” he said.

Despite the concern, Applewhaite said Barbados still had “very good” food practices but vigilance was paramount. He added that the public could also play a part. (CA)
