THE ISLAND’S four major trade unions aren’t ready to take drastic action in response to Government’s hike of the National Social Responsibility Levy (NSRL).
At least not just yet.
The next set of action which the Barbados Workers’ Union (BWU), the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW), Barbados Union of Teachers (BUT) and the Barbados Secondary Teachers’ Union (BSTU) will take to protest the increase in the NSRL from two to ten per cent will be a purely symbolic one.
Following a two-hour meeting at the BWU’s Solidarity House, St Michael headquarters yesterday evening, a decision was made by its members to stage a march from Queen’s Park to Parliament Buildings on Tuesday, where letters will be delivered to the Prime Minister, the Leader of the Opposition and the two Independent members of Parliament.
