THE STENCH of the Sargassum seaweed washing up on the popular picnic spot at River Bay, continues to cause discomfort to residents in the St Lucy community.

Two weeks ago, the MIDWEEK NATION reported on the seasonal seaweed choking the bay and causing anguish to residents downwind.

Yesterday, Ingrid Griffith, a long-time resident, said the seaweed remained a problem, especially with the recent rains. She added that although “trucks had come in” to remove some of it, there had been no relief for them.

“The foul scent is unbearable, especially when the house is closed up. Although lots of the seaweed have been removed, lots of it is still there. You can’t even go and take a sea bath,” she said. (RL)
