IT IS a tough assignment but the young Barbados Gems say they are ready for the task.

With four senior players in their line-up, including captain Sheniqua Thomas and star goal shooter Shonica Wharton, the teenage Barbados netballers left for the finals of the World Youth Tournament in Botswana yesterday.

Head coach Sandra Bruce-Small acknowledged that the Gems are in a tough group with the traditionally strong Australia, who came second at the last tournament two years ago, and South Africa, who were fifth.

The other teams in the group with Barbados, who are hoping to improve on their seventh position, are Singapore and Zimbabwe. (EZS)
