THERE IS NO NEED for any unnecessary fear in the wake of the last capture and killing of a shark earlier this week.
So says marine biologist Nikola Simpson, who explained that sharks were a common occurrence in the island’s waters, especially off the North and East Coasts.
She was speaking to the DAILY NATION after the landing of a 250-pound shark in St Philip on Monday, and the resulting caution by fishermen to sea-bathers about venturing into the sea.
Simpson said there was a much greater risk of dying from a mosquito-related disease than from a shark. In addition, she said there had been no shark attacks recorded in Barbados.
