Some reservoirs ‘bone dry’

Barbados’ water supply is running “very low” as it continues to experience drought conditions, warns Minister of Energy and Water Resource Wilfred Abrahams.

The situation is so serious, said the minister, that some reservoirs are “completely bone dry”, while others that should have in excess of 20 or 30 feet of water had only three feet.

“We are going to have to look, as a country, not just at our distribution network but  also how we consume water,” Abrahams said.

He advised Barbadians to start building or buying water-saving devices and installing water tanks on their premises.

He said the average household was still not storing the five gallons of water per person as recommended in the current drought and hurricane situation. (GC)
