THE PRIVATE SECTOR is mad about the Budget, but it is warning the National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) to forget about industrial action and marches.
Barbados Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) president Eddy Abed has told the leadership of the NUPW to cool their heels on protest action over recent tax impositions set to take effect next month.
NUPW president Akanni McDowall announced on the weekend that he would lead thousands of public workers out on the streets to protest if Government goes ahead with its two per cent tax on foreign exchange transactions, and ten per cent National Social Responsibility Levy (NSRL).
But Abed, who was against industrial unrest, said the NUPW plan was neither the “mature” approach nor was it “appropriate”. (GE)
