AFTER A journey which began on April 5 at Buckingham Palace, the Queen’s Baton landed in Barbados yesterday evening.

The symbol of peace, friendship and Commonwealth unity was received by CARIFTA Games athlete Rivaldo Leacock, Barbados Olympic Association president Steve Stoute and directors Sandra Osborne, Erskine Simmons and Cammie Burke.

Following a trip throughout Africa, the baton is making Barbados its fifth stop in the Caribbean as part of a 230 000km journey to 70 Commonwealth nations that will last 388 days. For 100 of those days, the baton will traverse Australia before the start of the Commonwealth Games in April 2018. (KB)
