$16 million upgrade

Date:

THE SEA BREEZE HOTEL, at Maxwell Christ Church, is undergoing a major $16 million upgrade and will be rebranded the Sea-Breeze Beach House on reopening.

One of three properties in the Ocean Hotels Group, that also includes South Beach and Ocean Two Resort, Sea Breeze is positioned as a luxury boutique all-inclusive resort that is popular in both the family and romance markets in the United Kingdom and North America.

Group general manager for Ocean Hotels, Patricia Affonso-Dass disclosed that the original 78 rooms at the beach-front property will be renovated, while a new block of 44 luxury suites will be added.

“It is a hugely exciting and important project for us. The new block will include 35 luxury ocean front junior suites each approximately 600 square-feet in size and nine luxury two bedroom family suites. In terms of the design, the construction will be done in such a way that the two-bedroom suites can adjoin the luxury ocean-front suites to create a three-bedroom or four-bedroom suite,” said Affonso-Dass.

Also included in the project will be the addition of a new restaurant and on site rum shop café, the complete upgrade and refurbishment of three existing restaurants, addition of a deck to the wedding gazebo and general upgrades to the landscaping, beach area, entrance and reception areas and all other existing facilities.

Affonso-Dass further explained that this was in keeping with market trends and demands as family travel had changed significantly in recent times. A lot of extended and blended families, she said, were travelling today, unlike in past times where it tended to be two parents and two children.

“With such room configuration flexibility and the all-inclusive nature of our product, I think we will be better positioned in the family market and our new product will give us a great edge,” she said.

Speaking to the name change and the rebranding, Affonso-Dass said the new Sea Breeze Beach House fits the concept of upgrading of the plant to create a luxury, laid-back beach-house feel.

“It is an all-inclusive product but the idea is for our guests to enjoy a boutique all-inclusive product which is distinct from the typical club-type all-inclusive”.

The Sea Breeze upgrade follows that of sister property South Beach, where almost $3 million was invested last year to create an all-suite property at Rockley, and Affonso-Dass said Ocean Hotels was committed to reinvesting across the group.

“The key to success in this business is to constantly invest in your human resources and in your plant. Neither can be divorced from the other and for us it is a genuine commitment to be competitive in the industry,” she added. (PR)
