THE DRIVER of the ZR vehicle involved in an accident that resulted in schoolgirl Zakiyah DeFreitas losing her arm two years ago was found guilty on four traffic offences and is to be sentenced in August.

Magistrate Graveney Bannister, in delivering his decision against Matthew Ricardo Daniel, warned drivers of public service vehicles (PSV) about their responsibilities.

“The driver of a public service vehicle has a high duty of care as they carry precious cargo (people) . . . . The road is not a playground and a driver of a PSV should not accede to any request to do foolishness on the roads and endanger people’s lives by causing grave injuries,” the magistrate said in the Bridgetown Traffic Court of the District “A” Magistrates’ Court.

Daniel, 42, of Licorish Village, My Lord’s Hill, St Michael, was found guilty of wanton driving, dangerous driving, driving without due care and attention and driving without reasonable consideration on June 9, 2015. (TS)
