CAVE HILL BLACKBIRDS found a nest of gold on Day 7 of the University of the West Indies Inter-Campus Games yesterday.

The Blackbirds snatched four gold medals, leaving main rivals Mona to settle for silver four times.

The Blackbirds seized the gold in netball, hockey and basketball.

The Cave Hill girls drew 1-1 with Mona in hockey, with the Jamaican girls taking the penalty shoot-out 2-1, but Cave Hill gained a crucial point that allowed them to take the overall title.

There was no such drama among the men, as the Blackbirds soared to a 7-0 victory with Akeem Rudder scoring five times.

The Cave Hill girls outplayed Mona in basketball 43-35, with Jennifer Joseph-Hackett leading the way with 14 points. Guard Jada Saunders had ten points.

Cave Hill’s cricketers, however, had to settle for bronze after losing to champions St Augustine by 35 runs. St Augustine made 113 in their 20 overs and Cave Hill folded for 78. (KB)
