THE YOUNG WOMEN’S Christian Association’s (YWCA) FunFest Fair will provide families and friends with an opportunity to socialise while drawing attention to the plight of less fortunate people.

Speaking recently at the launch FunFest, YWCA president Tamita Griffith said the proceeds from tomorrow’s event at Queen’s College would go toward the association’s breakfast programme.

“The proceeds are targeted towards our summer takeaway breakfast package and would go toward sustaining the breakfast programme for the new school year.

“While this event is a fund raiser we also hope that persons would become more sensitive to those who are less fortunate,” Griffith said.

The association’s breakfast programme is in its tenth year and is based at seven centres across the island. It caters to 15 primary and secondary schools.

Griffith stressed the importance of eating the first meal of the day.

Based on research, she said students who eat a hearty breakfast perform better than those who do not and have shown improvement in their classroom behaviour.  (SB)
