COHOBBLOPOT is off the cards once again.
Just short of one month after Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley said the event would make a return, he was forced to change his tune.
Speaking during a press conference today at his Sky Mall office, Lashley said the private sector entity which was going to produce the show had indicated it could no longer do so.
There was no Cohobblopot last year, while in 2015 the event was replaced by the 1Love concert, featuring acclaimed Trinidadian calypsonian Machel Montano and his Monk Monte band.
Among other changes announced today were a $50 000 increase in the subvention to Grant Kadooment bandleaders and a $30 000 increase in their prize money. This is expected to be a one-off decision.
Lashley said there would be no King and Queen of the Crop this year due to a drop in the amount of cane being reaped manually. Sugar industry officials are expected to come up with another way of honouring workers. (BN)
