THE LONG-MOOTED NATURAL GAS PIPELINE from Trinidad and Tobago to Barbados seems to be dead in the Caribbean Sea.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Senator Darcy Boyce, told the Senate yesterday that efforts to get a handle on the possible cost of piped natural gas to the country from the twin-island republic had been an elusive target.
He said every time a cost was attached to the project, it kept getting higher and higher “and nobody could tell you where it would stop”.
In those circumstances, Boyce, who has responsibility for energy, said a decision was taken to have the cheaper, cleaner form of energy shipped to the island in special containers. (GE)
